Do not ignore it
A Debt Recovery Tribunal notice carries deadlines. Missing one can cost options that are still available today. Note the date you received it, every date printed on it, and the case or application number — these three things anchor everything that follows.
Build the file in the first 48 hours
Collect the notice itself, the loan agreement and sanction letter, the account statement, and any correspondence the application relies on. If parts are missing, list them and ask for copies through the proper channel rather than waiting.
- The notice / application as received
- Loan agreement and sanction letter
- Account statements for the disputed period
- Prior complaints, replies, and settlement correspondence
- Identity and address proof as named in the notice
Coordination is not representation
Organizing documents, tracking dates, preparing factual summaries, and coordinating communication is consultancy work. Appearing before the tribunal and rendering legal opinions is the work of an advocate. Where legal representation is genuinely required, it is engaged separately and clearly — you should always know who is doing what.
Use the time before the hearing
The gap between notice and hearing is when facts get straight. Reconcile figures, prepare a clean chronology, and decide what you are actually trying to achieve —adjournment for document retrieval, settlement talks, or a full response. Walking in with a clear objective changes how every conversation goes.
