What to look for
Accounts you never opened, payments marked delayed when you paid on time, balances higher than your last statement, and closed loans still showing as open are the four most common disputes. Check them against your own records — statements, bank debits, and letters.
The dispute path
Credit information companies and lenders both have formal correction processes. The sequence below is deliberately boring; boring is what works.
- Identify the entry precisely: bureau, account number, field, and what is wrong
- File the dispute with the bureau (and the lender where required) in writing
- Attach evidence: statement, payment receipt, or closure letter
- Record the dispute reference number and follow up on the timeline they give you
- If the result is unsatisfactory, escalate through the grievance channel with the same references
What we help with
We help you read the report, decide which entries are genuinely wrong versus merely unflattering, prepare the dispute with supporting documents, and track follow-ups. We do not promise deletions or score changes — no one can honestly guarantee a bureau or lender outcome.
Keep your own archive
Download a fresh report after major events — settlement, closure, correction — and keep them. A dated trail of reports is the fastest way to show what changed and when.
